What can you see in the night sky over Grand Lake? Find out on Saturday, November 7, with a presentation on Stargazing Over Grand Lake by Mark Casazza, President of the Lima Astronomical Society.
Mark will be discussing what we can see over Grand Lake St. Marys this time of year, how the lake helps with astronomy, and the effect light pollution has on astronomy, wildlife, and public safety.
If the weather cooperates, Mark will also be bringing a solar telescope – stick around after the meeting to get an up-close look at the sun!
The meeting will also feature lake improvement, water quality, wetlands, and state park updates.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend this Lake Improvement Association meeting, which will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 7, at the Celina Moose. Doughnuts and coffee will be available as refreshments.
Can’t make the meeting? Watch the live stream on the LIA Facebook page!
ABOUT MARK CASAZZA
Mark’s passion for astronomy began in 2000 when he moved to a home where the Milky Way was visible from his back deck, and he jumped into astrophotography in 2012. In 2015, he moved to New Bremen, Ohio, eager to explore the skies of west central Ohio.
Today, Mark serves as the President of the Lima Astronomical Society and President of the Stillwater Stargazers based in Troy, Ohio. He is a founding member of the West Ohio Astro Imagers, and an at-large board member for the Armstrong Air & Space Museum. He practices astronomy at every opportunity, including regular trips to Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania during new moon windows.
Mark hosts and assists with over a dozen public stargazes each year. He says that too often, people feel that astronomy is overly technical, expensive, or out of reach. His mission is to break down those barriers and help people enjoy exploring God’s creation beyond Earth using accessible tools, learning practical skills, and experiencing a shared sense of wonder.
